About Me
I currently live in Asheville, North Carolina, with my wife, Meegan, of over 18 years and our two pups, Sadie and Tula. Together, we share a love of travel, adventure, and discovering unique, meaningful places around the world.
I started Unexplored Travel in 2025, after an amazing bucket list trip to Bhutan in 2024. For 24 years, Bhutan had been on my list. It was more of a dream, as I never thought I would actually get there due to the cost and the complexity of travel. Meegan encouraged us to plan it and a few months later we were off for an adventure of a lifetime. I came back with a fresh love of everything travel, especially to unique places and cultures.
A Life Inspired by Travel
As the son of a first-generation German immigrant, I was raised with a deep appreciation for culture, history, and the value of seeing the world. My mother taught me that meaningful travel doesn’t require luxury—just curiosity and an open heart. Even when money was tight, we prioritized travel, camping across the U.S. and throughout Europe. Those early experiences shaped my worldview and sparked a lifelong passion for exploration.

Where I’ve Been
I’ve been fortunate to travel far and wide, with every destination leaving its mark. A few highlights:
- United States – I’ve explored much of the country, including Alaska and Hawaii.
- U.S. Virgin Islands – Spent a summer living and working at an eco-resort on St. John, and served as first mate and sole crew on a small sailing charter.
- London – Studied abroad for a semester, made lasting friendships, and explored the UK from Brighton to Edinburgh.
- Cuba – Rode in vintage almendrones, smoked Cuban cigars, and bonded with locals over baseball.
- Costa Rica – Hiked volcanoes, wandered past waterfalls, toured a coffee plantation, and even had a toucan perch on my shoulder.
- Peru – Saw the Nazca Lines, climbed Huayna Picchu after watching the sunrise at Machu Picchu, and shared a memorable moment with local schoolchildren at Sacsayhuamán.
- Italy – Took my first serious photograph—sunset over the Ponte Vecchio in Florence—which sparked a love of photography. Later, I returned on our honeymoon, traveling by train, sipping Limoncello, and trying tripe for the first time.
- Isle of Sark – Experienced the magic of this remote, car-free, Dark Sky island and navigated home by starlight after a local music festival.
- Bhutan – A dream destination. I tasted Ema Datshi, watched traditional archery, visited sacred Buddhist temples, and hiked to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery.
Why It Matters
For me, travel is more than seeing the sights—it’s about connecting with people, stories, and places in authentic, immersive ways. These experiences have shaped how I live, how I see the world, and how I help others create unforgettable journeys of their own.
